About Acuity Therapy

Acuity Therapy was started by Psychologist and Behaviour Support Practitioner, Luke Desmond in 2020.   We provide both in clinic and mobile Psychology and Behaviour Support services to Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich and Gold Coast regions.    We are a values driven practice who strive to achieve the best outcomes for clients.  We are bound by the Australian Psychological Societies code of Ethics as well as the guidelines set out by the NDIS. 

Services we provide?

  • Psychology services include the use of therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure Therapy, EMDR, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Behavioural Activation, Applied Behaviour Analysis, and Play Therapy. 
  • Other psychological services include Behavioural training to parents and primary caregivers to assist children and adolescents who have difficulties managing emotions and behaviour.
  • Behaviour Support can also include the development, training and management of Positive Behaviour Support Plans (PBS) for people who present with challenging behaviour.   
  • Cognitive and Adaptive Behavioural Assessments.

The Team

Luke Desmond

Luke has  10 years experience working in the mental health and disability sector.Initially starting as a Behaviour Support Practitioner in 2015 before becoming a registered Psychologist in 2020. He has worked with people across the lifespan, providing therapy  to assist people with acheving their goals. He has experience writing positive behaviour support plans for people who engage in challenging behaviour, as well as providing training to parents and supporters in those plans. Luke uses a variety of treatment modalities including cognitive behavioural therapy, EMDR, acceptance and commitment therapy, motivational interviewing, exposure therapy, clinical hypnosis and person centred counselling.  In his spare time Luke enjoys going to the gym, playing call of duty on his PS5 and walking his therapy dog. He is a mad Liverpool FC fan and also enjoys watching rugby, boxing and UFC.

 Who & what we treat?

  • Acuity Therapy offers therapy for children, teens, adults, as well as people with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, autism, cognitive impairments or other disabilities.
  • We can help people who are experiencing adjustment issues, anxiety, depression, behavioural problems, phobias, psychosis, trauma,and substance abuse.

Fees?

  • For NDIS participants we invoice under Improved Daily Living and Improved Relationships categories. Our fees are based on those from the NDIS price guide.

  • Bulk Bill – We are not a bulk billing practice but may do so on request. 

  • Full Fee Client $240 (clients may be eligible for a Medicare rebate of up to $98.97 using a mental health care plan from their GP).
